I am a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

And registered accredited Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) and Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society (BPS)

My extensive & thorough training enables me to understand the layers of complexity underlying psychological & mental health difficulties across different stages of life. I now specialise in working with adults over 18 years old.

Every individual is so unique with our own biology, personality, history, social circumstances & culture contributing to the person we have become & the issues we experience. Rather than pathologise people, I prefer to understand the factors involved in how, when & why problems have emerged & what keeps them going. I also like to pay attention to, help you to harness & realise your strengths in our work together.

I offer a welcoming, empathic, non-judgemental & knowledgeable space to help you feel understood, safe, supported & clear about how we can work through your difficulties together. The combination of these elements together with using evidence-based therapies is central in supporting effective healing, growth & transformation.

I use short & longer-term, evidence-based therapies & approaches depending on the nature & complexity of your difficulties & the goals you have for therapy.

About Clinical Psychology

Psychological therapy with a clinical psychologist can be broken down into four main stages:

  • Assessment & initial consultation is the gathering of relevant information, building a safe therapeutic relationship, identifying problems & therapy goals;

  • Collaborative formulation (a way of understanding & explaining your difficulties) where we develop a bespoke map/diagram/or ways of understanding what factors have contributed to your difficulties; what has triggered problems; what keeps them going; & what strengths you have that we can use & build on in therapy. The ability to formulate problems is a unique skill that clinical (& counselling) psychologists have;

  • The change phase during which I recommend & introduce interventions strategies. My recommendations will be informed by the formulation, your goals, & evidence-based and researched interventions. The approaches used will be designed to help you overcome difficulties & respond more effectively & healthily; we will also identify, understand & work through any barriers & blocks that can emerge in therapy;

  • Evaluating and ending therapy & follow-up as you learn about & build confidence in meeting your needs & restoring yourself we will evaluate the work completed, plan ending our working relationship & how you can maintain progress & stay well. We can also process whatever may come up around this phase of therapy. At this stage, sessions are scheduled less frequently with the opportunity for follow-up sessions or ‘booster’ consultations (if required) which allows you the space to build confidence & independence with support, if needed.
