Overall impact and benefit of therapy

“I’ve greatly improved my self-confidence and learned how to live more effectively with anxiety. I started therapy with almost paralyzing anxiety and was no longer able to find enjoyment in day-to-day activities. I also had difficulty processing my emotions, which led to frequent panic attacks. Through therapy, I discovered the root causes of my anxiety and became more accepting of it. At the start, my anxiety triggered destructive coping patterns that caused numerous relationship problems. Thanks to therapy, I’ve learned how to prevent those self-destructive behaviours from resurfacing. Overall, my quality of life and sense of contentment have increased significantly over the course of therapy.”

What was most helpful?

This helped me understand why I feel more anxious at certain times. Paired with the HMP, it allowed me to structure my days in a way that widened my window of tolerance and reduced the likelihood of anxiety surfacing.

This helped me reframe some core beliefs I had carried since childhood – beliefs that I came to realize were influencing my emotional responses in adulthood. The rescripting allowed me to revisit and reprocess how those memories shaped my current self-perception.

These allowed me to break down my anxious thoughts and identify which “mode” was driving them. In the past, I often felt immense guilt for simply having anxious thoughts, but through chair work, I learned to recognize the mode at play and shift into a healthier one to respond more effectively.

Through regular meditation and breathwork, I established a steadier physiological baseline each day. When I felt overwhelmed, these tools helped me re-regulate both my body and mind.”

Would you recommend therapy with Rachel to others?

“I definitely would. From the very first call, I found Rachel to be incredibly caring and knowledgeable. … I found the structure of the therapy very effective. I was given reading materials ahead of sessions, which allowed me to engage more fully in the work and come prepared with questions. The experiential exercises – where I acted out my modes (inner child, healthy parent, angry child, etc.) – were especially impactful. They helped me get to the root cause of my anxiety and better understand the why behind my thoughts and behaviours.

Schema therapy with Rachel has been truly life changing. It provided me with lifelong tools that I will continue using to manage my anxiety. I’ve seen a drastic improvement in my quality of life from the beginning of therapy to the end.”
